This was another project of mine from our trip to the gorge. Most of the river was very shallow, not much more than ankle deep, on a bed of very flat slate. So this big boulder sitting right next to a big pool that was at least chest-deep was very dramatic. Nobody else particularly wanted to wade in deep enough to get to this rock, so I went by myself armed with some charcoal that we'd found at an old campfire. The black circle was inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. After that part was done, I didn't think the black popped out enough, so I scratched another stone on the surface of the boulder to make it white around the edges to enhance the contrast.
