Girl
Spray Paint on Drawing Paper (Matted)

I made her with a stencil. The original idea was to cut her shape out of black and glue the black piece onto white paper, creating the illusion that she was standing in darkness and being illuminated only from one side, just enough to see her outline. Then I realized that the edges of the cut paper would be too hard, the transition between light and dark too sharp, so I decided on spray painting the stencil onto another color. I reversed my entire idea so that she's standing in intense light--generally the idea is that people and objects can be seen because of light, but, being the contrary person that I am, I wanted to switch it around so that this girl can only be seen by her shadows.
