Skyscraper
Wire Screen & Rubber Cement
5" x 3 1/2" x 23 1/4"
AP Studio Art at Strath Haven High School

I first got the idea for this piece when I saw how the rubber cement spread itself over the little spaces in the wire screen and dried to look like tiny panes of glass. At the same time, the feel of the rubber cement while I was working with it reminded me so much of some kind of organic material, almost like mucus, so I decided to explore a comparison between a skyscraper and a living organism. I opened up the top of the building to look like a wound cut into skin, or a leaf growing from a stalk, to sort of personify the skyscraper.
