I jokingly started calling this my "form-shaped rock" when we were first learning the process of stone carving at the Governor's School. We didn't start this assignment by deciding what we wanted our stone to be; instead, we were supposed to try to figure out what the stone wanted to be. The idea was to define the true shape of the stone itself, to become a "form" rather than just a hunk of rock. When someone asked me what it would be when it was done, I sarcastically (but honestly) said it would be a "form-shaped rock" and the name stuck.
