Intro to 3-D Art (SHHS)

This assignment was to make a figure of a god, goddess, or some kind of mythological character. This figure of the Mother Goddess dates back to prehistoric times, even before people knew how to fire clay, when they carved similar figures out of stone or bone. This prehistoric Mother Goddess is usually shown as pregnant, and always with wide hips and large breasts. This represents not only her physical ability to support many children, but also that she, the Earth, provides everything that all life on this planet needs to exist. The head is merely suggested, and there is no face; it is assumed that no human can know what she looks like, let alone make an accurate representation of her. The legs taper to a point so that the figure can be stuck in the ground, as it often was stuck outside a doorway of an empty dwelling to protect it while the owner was away. I rubbed a little bit of brown glaze on this piece to make it look as though it had been stuck in the ground and left in the elemtents for a while.
