This piece started with the flower, which I originally just drew as practice. It looked really cool, so I decided to try to use it in something--or design a piece around it, as the case may be. I got the idea of a brightly colored striped background from a friend's brightly colored striped sweater. I ended up cutting out of the background and putting white behind the flower as a way to make it pop out from the background, and kind of cut the business of the background. I had this leftover piece of background, so I made a smaller version of the flower shape and used it as a mirror image. I like how it turned out--it's very different from the kind of things I usually make.
